August Open Reading Period – FAQ

August Open Reading Period – FAQ

Why is there a submission fee this year?

Due to the high volume of submissions received last year, we’ve adjusted our model for this reading period. Submissions in August will include a copy of Roadside Assistance: A Roadside Press Reader. This helps us manage volume while supporting the continued work of the press.

What does the $24.95 fee include?

The $24.95 reading fee includes a copy of Roadside Assistance with shipping included. You are receiving the book as part of your submission.

I already purchased the anthology. Do I still have to pay?

No. If you already own a copy of Roadside Assistance, proof of purchase satisfies the submission fee requirement.

Is this a pay-to-publish model?

No. Roadside Press does not charge authors publication fees. The submission model for this reading period includes a book purchase and is not connected to publication decisions.

Why tie submissions to the anthology?

Roadside Press operates without grant or institutional funding. This model supports the sustainability of the press and ensures that submitting writers are engaging with the work we publish.

Are fee waivers available?

Yes. A limited number of fee waivers are available for writers experiencing financial hardship. If the cost presents a barrier, please reach out. No additional explanation is required.

Who is eligible to submit?

At this time, we are accepting submissions from U.S.-based authors only.
